Dr. Cunningham received her dental degree from Loyola University Dental School, where she graduated with clinical honors and did a residency in hospital dentistry. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Illinois State Dental Society, the Chicago Dental Society and the Decatur District Dental Society, where she served as president from 1994 to 1995. She is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and has her fellowship degree.
She is also a member of the American Equilibration Society, the American Society of Osseointegration, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and the American College of Oral Implantology. She has received further advanced education at the Pankey Institute, where she has studied myofascial pain, the temporomandibular joint, and occlusion. Dr. Cunningham is a Donated Dental Services Program volunteer, which is a humanitarian service for the disabled, medically-compromised and elderly people.
Dentistry is not only a profession, but also a passion for Dr. Cunningham. She feels dentistry is a wonderful combination of both art and science that allows her to care for her patients so that they may experience a lifetime of beautiful smiles and function. She is committed to practice with the latest techniques and scientific advances in dentistry.
Dr. Cunningham is married and has five children. She enjoys photography, gardening, reading, and spending time with her family, friends and pets.
Mary Lou has been an essential part of Dr. Cunningham’s team as a dental hygienist for 32 years. She received her associate’s degree from Lakeland College, has attended the Pankey Institute. She is certified in CPR, dental sealants and Zoom Bleaching. Mary Lou takes her time teaching oral hygiene and answering patient questions and concerns about their treatment. She is skilled in the treatment of periodontal disease and stays informed of the most advanced dental hygiene procedures and technology through her continuing education courses. Working in a multi-generational practice, she enjoys helping patients to feel comfortable in a caring atmosphere, whether it be children or our senior patients. In her spare time, Mary Lou enjoys spending time with her husband and her two children. She also enjoys traveling, gardening, crocheting, and outdoor activities.
Joyce has been a chairside assistant for 42 years and has been with Dr. Carol for the past 18 years. She received her dental assisting certification from Kaskaskia Junior College and has attended the Pankey Institute. She is trained in CPR, Zoom Bleaching, and the Trios 3shape Scanner. She finds it very rewarding to help give someone a better smile. Her strong clinical skills, attention to detail and warm and caring personality have made her an excellent dental assistant. Joyce loves helping patients with any questions and concerns they may have about their dental treatment. In her free time, Joyce enjoys family, especially her two granddaughters, as well as biking and knitting.
Mallory has been a welcome addition to Dr. Cunningham’s team as a dental hygienist for 11 years. She received her associate’s degree from Parkland College and is current on her CPR certification. Her favorite parts of her job are working with people and enhancing their lives through their smiles. An educator at heart, she loves to use her teaching skills to help patients understand how to best keep their smiles for a lifetime. Mallory’s bubbly personality and gentle touch combine to create a wonderful experience for our patients where they receive the attention and care they deserve. She also works to improve patients’ lives outside the dental office by educating them on all the ways they can maintain their teeth. Mallory enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends, especially her son.
As our front office receptionist, Nicole is always ready to greet patients with a smile and a warm welcome. She has been in the dental field for 25 years and was a dental assistant for the first 23 of those years. She is certified in CPR, and her favorite part of working here is helping patients feel at home in the dental office. Nicole is very adept at answering questions about treatment plans, costs, and financing options. She is very knowledgeable in insurance claim filing, reimbursement, policy limits, and coverage. She helps patients understand their explanation of benefits and pre-treatment estimates. Nicole has been happily married for 20 years and has 3 beautiful children. She enjoys spending her free time with her family and two dogs.
Mary loves meeting and greeting patients as a front office receptionist. She is also a registered dental hygienist and has an associate’s degree from Lake Land College. She has 26 years of experience in the dental field. She is certified in CPR, dental sealants, Zoom Bleaching, and enjoys taking continuing education classes on a variety of subjects. Mary enjoys partnering with patients to help them have healthy smiles and educating patients on the importance of oral health. Her compassion for helping people is the driving force behind the love for her job. Outside of the office, Mary has been married to her high school sweetheart for 26 years. She has two wonderful children. She also enjoys her pets, gardening, and helping others.
Michael has been working at Dr. Cunningham’s office since high school and became a full-time employee in 2015. He is a graduate of St. Louis University with a degree in biology and is trained in CPR and Trios 3shape scanning. Michael has an amazing knowledge of science and technology, and has been an integral part of our team, helping us to stay current with constantly changing advancements in computer technology and software. His calm and reassuring manner helps to put patients at ease and make their visits more pleasant. He enjoys being in an environment where he can really get to know each patient and see the transition of their smiles from start to finish. When he changes out of his scrubs, Michael enjoys working out, volunteering at the local animal shelter, and spending time with friends, family and his own dogs and kittens.
Daniel has been an employee of our office in various capacities since he was in high school. During his junior year in college, he decided to pursue a career in dentistry. He received his bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology from Kenyon College and then began his educational journey at SIU School of Dentistry in the fall of 2016. Daniel has an amazing artistic talent as well as a love of science , both of which will serve him well in his future career. He has a great rapport with patients and a gentle chairside presence that enable him to relate to patient’s needs and make treatment easier for them. After graduation from dental school, Daniel plans to return to Decatur and practice with Dr. Cunningham.
Morgan is the newest member of the dental team. She recently completed the Dental Assisting Program at MTI Springfield. Morgan holds a CPR certification as well as a NELDA and is a member of the ADAA. She is certified in CPR, dental sealants, and Trios 3shape scanning. She enjoys helping patients fall in love with their smiles. Morgan’s sweet and caring nature helps to put patients at ease and lets them feel relaxed during their visits. In her off-hours, Morgan enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
